Our guest on Valentines Day was Juliet Jacques who discussed her Transgender Journey blog for The Guardian – the first time that gender reassignment has been documented for a mainstream British publication. Responding to conservative and ‘radical’ feminist critiques of transsexualism, she explores recent media myths and stereotypes and explains how she aimed to use those media to deconstruct them.

It has been a typically hectic January for OiSL, so we haven’t had time to upload all the shows until now.

On the 10th January, Rosie returned from the Christmas break to interview Nick Field, a spoken word artist and poet. Nick draws on theatre and live art to create evocative, bittersweet and richly lyrical spoken word pieces.

On the 17th January Rosie chatted with Allegra McEvedy MBE – chef, broadcaster and writer, Wendy Baverstock reviewed Ani DiFranco, and Suran Dickson talked about her charity, Diversity Role Models. Click here to listen again.

On the 24th January, Rosie interviewed Canadian folk duo Madison Violet, composed of singer-songwriters Brenley MacEachern and Lisa MacIsaac. In the studio she met performance artist Brian Lobel and talked about haircuts with Greygory and Clara from the Open Barbers. Click here to listen again.

We celebrated LGBT History Month which kicked off on 1st February. Guest presenter Wendy Baverstock interviewed Rosie Wilby on a train to Manchester. Joining Wendy in the studio was singer, performer and gay rights activist Ezra Axelrod, who was launching his debut album, Songs from the American Motel, with a month-long West End residency at Leicester Square Theatre.

Tickets for Ezra Axelrod’s show can be purchased here and £1 of every ticket sale will be donated to the National AIDS Trust.

Calling Heather Peace fans..

Well we had one or two technical hitches, but thankful, the lovely Heather Peace eventually was able to speak to Rosie on the phone this week. Heather told us all about her tour, including her 2011 Finale concert at the Union Chapel Islington on Monday 28th November. We were joined in the studio by travel expert Ryan Haynes, comedian Stephen Bailey and semi-regular guest Sarah Campbell.

We also have a copy of our live show LGBT History Month Special, funded by Southwark LGBT Network. The show was recorded earlier this year at Southwark Playhouse and featured Heather Peace and Suran Dickson.

Songwriter and performer Marcus Reeves joined us on the show for a song on Tuesday 8th November. We were also joined by comedian Sarah Campbell, our semi-regular guest, who reviewed the Stonewall Awards.
