The Whamola (instrument), Simon Little (bass player), Lea DeLaria (singer & comedian) and Rosie

For this week’s show we went on a field trip to meet American comedian and jazz artist Lea DeLaria at the Vortex. She chats to Rosie about her mission as a comedian, what brought her to Jazz and her special relationship with Ian McKellen.

She plays at the Pizza Express Jazz Club in Soho on 15th May, where she presents the Swinging 60s Songbook. Together with her bass player Simon Little, his double bass and its fancy sister instrument, the whamola, she gives us as live sample of her music.

For rights reasons the music is not on the podcast, but that’s what you could hear on the show:

1) Lea DeLaria: ‘Kiko and the Lavender Moon’ from the album “Double Standards”

2) Lea DeLaria: ‘Lady Be Good’ (live) – on the podcast!

3) Lea DeLaria: ‘Straight, No Chaser’ (live)- on the podcast!
